PHL Spool

Your existing spool files become indexed, distributed PDFs

No development, no changes to your programs: PHL Spool starts from the spool file your application already produces. It adds a page background, indexes it so you can find it again, archives it and sends it — and it handles Factur-X e-invoicing, the hybrid PDF/XML format used in France and, as ZUGFeRD, in Germany.

Key features

What PHL Spool can do

Spool files taken as they are

Spool files to process are selected just as in WRKSPLF: library, output queue, name, user, status. Your print programs are not touched.

Page background and layout

PDF front and back backgrounds, conditional if needed, portrait or landscape orientation, fonts and margins. Spool fields can be moved to the millimetre, and you can add lines, images, symbols and barcodes.

Indexing and search

Typed criteria — integer, decimal, date — are set directly on spool fields and filled in automatically at archiving. You can then find all of a customer’s invoices or all of an employee’s payslips.

Factur-X e-invoicing

A post-processing step generates the XML mapped to the spool fields and embeds it in the PDF, as PDF/A-3 compliant with EN 16931, in the BASIC, BASIC WL and MINIMUM profiles.

Local or remote archiving

Storage in the IBM i IFS or on an FTP/SFTP server, with a year/month/day/template folder structure and tracking of missing transfers.

E-mail distribution

Several SMTP servers, e-mail templates with an HTML body, CC and BCC recipients, read receipts, and an address book fed by an SQL query.

Printing and tracking queues

PDP printers, PostScript 3 or output queue, conditional printing with number of copies, and tracking queues for printing, e-mail and FTP.

Automation and scheduling

A monitoring subsystem processes any spool file that reaches ready status according to a routing table, and templates can be scheduled weekly or monthly via the IBM i job scheduler.

Per-user rights

Users are created from their IBM i profile, with rights per feature, per template, per e-mail template and per output queue. Authentication logs are kept.
